Mayflower 400:

Working with Wampanoag people

Funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund allowed close working with the Indigenous tribe who made first contact with the Mayflower.

Through close liaison with scholar, Paula Peters, her team at SmokeSygnals, and the Wampanoag Advisory Committee in Cape Cod, the Wampanoag people were represented throughout the programme. This included commissions of new films and online materials, the installation of a plaque on the Mayflower Memorial, film screenings, co-creation of education materials, and an international outreach programme aligned to the Wampum Belt exhibition linking Wampanoag and Southampton young people.

For more information and education resources, see the Mayflower 400 website.
